Mentoring Options

CAMP rejects the ‘one size fits all’ approach to mentoring. Our program is designed to be flexible and fully customizable, so each mentee can shape their own experience based on their professional goals and interests. There are no required meetings, time commitments, or rigid structures—mentoring pairs decide together whether to follow a traditional path or create a unique, non-traditional approach that works for them.

Traditional Mentoring Programs

Mentoring pairs engaging in a traditional mentoring experience will generally exhibit three characteristics:

(1) The mentoring pair will have one or more specific goals or learning objectives for their time in the program,

(2) The mentoring pair will meet on a more scheduled basis (as opposed to on an ad hoc basis), and

(3) The mentoring pair will follow some type of mentoring plan or curriculum to assist them in achieving their mentoring goals and objectives.

Every mentoring pair’s plan is unique. CAMP encourages pairs to create a plan that’s meaningful and relevant to the mentee. To make this easier, we provide template mentoring plans tailored to Colorado lawyers at every stage of their career. These templates offer structure, help set goals, and guide the development of key skills, while still allowing each mentoring relationship to be fully customized.

Mentors and Mentees who complete an approved mentoring plan will receive 9 CLE credits, 2 of which will count toward the ethics requirement of C.R.C.P. 260.2.

Non-Traditional Mentoring Programs

Not every mentee comes with specific goals or needs a structured mentoring plan. Some mentees benefit most from a mentor who acts as a connector, door opener, or on-demand resource. In these cases, CAMP handles the matching, and the mentoring pair shapes and sustains the relationship on their own terms.

Choosing a non-traditional approach doesn’t lessen the value of your mentoring experience—it simply means you’re opting out of a structured plan or CLE-focused program. The timing, focus, and content of your mentorship are completely up to you.

Even in a non-traditional program, CAMP’s mentoring templates remain available for guidance and inspiration, and you’ll continue to have access to all CAMP resources and events.

If you’re interested in non-traditional mentoring but prefer not to go through CAMP’s one-on-one matching process, consider connecting with a ‘coffee mentor.’ These mentors are available for short meetings to discuss career paths, practice area questions, or to join networking events.

For help with any of the following, reach out to a member of the CAMP Coffee List:

    • A “starting place” for networking within a certain practice area, bar association, or legal organization
    • A resource for practice area specific questions
    • Solo practitioners seeking a resource for practice management questions
    • New lawyers, law students, or LLPs looking for someone to accompany them to a bar association or legal organization event
    • Resources for pursuing leadership opportunities within a bar association
    • Resume review
    • Informational interviews
    • Alumni connections
    • A sounding board for professionalism and ethics issues

CAMP Partner Programs

For some CAMP participants, the most valuable mentoring comes through local legal organizations—like bar associations, Inns of Court, law firms, or other legal groups—where they want to build connections, expand their network, or deepen their involvement. CAMP partners with legal organizations across Colorado to offer tailored mentoring programs for their members.

These partner programs often feature customized mentoring plans, events, and opportunities designed to strengthen professional relationships and foster career growth—all while enhancing the organization’s culture and member engagement.
