A 12-Month Program Built to Launch Your Practice
LEJ provides the training, mentoring, workspace, and resources you need to build an innovative, client-centered solo or small firm — from first steps to graduation and beyond.
How It Works
Your Journey Through LEJ
LEJ is structured around three interlocking phases — foundation, launch, and growth — supported by expert trainers, a dedicated mentor, and a cohort of peers walking the same path.
Months 1–3
Foundation
Bootcamp launches your cohort experience. Then biweekly training sessions build the business and legal infrastructure you need before opening your doors — entity formation, trust accounting, pricing, risk management, and your first marketing foundation.
Months 4–9
Launch & Build
You’re practicing. Training deepens into client engagement, pricing workshops, process mapping, financial planning, and social media marketing — all timed to when these challenges become real for your practice. Peer roundtables begin.
Months 10–12
Grow & Sustain
Advanced sessions on business continuity, technology automation, and long-term planning prepare you for life after LEJ. You’ll complete your graduation requirements, celebrate your cohort’s progress, and transition into the LEJ alumni network.
-
Week 1 · Foundation
Bootcamp — Build Something Amazing
A full week of intensive, expert-led sessions launches your LEJ journey. You’ll meet your cohort, receive your mentor pairing and pro bono placement, and complete foundational sessions on LEJ’s mission, legal innovation, financial basics, trust accounting, entity formation, risk management, and pro bono residency.
-
Month 2 · Foundation
Purpose, Story & Well-Being
Training shifts to why you do this work and how to communicate it — your origin story, your values, and the clients you’re here to serve. A foundational well-being session also grounds your practice in sustainable habits from day one.
-
Month 3 · Foundation
Business Planning & Customized Legal Services
Build out your business model and explore unbundling and limited scope representation as core tools for serving the middle-income market. Your 3-month check-in with LEJ staff occurs this month.
-
Month 4 · Launch
Client Experience
As clients come in the door, training focuses on intake, screening, engagement letters, and the fundamentals of exceptional client service. Your first Peer Roundtable takes place this month — a structured session for cohort members to review and learn from each other’s intake processes and early challenges.
-
Month 5 · Launch
Pricing Workshops
Two hands-on workshops move from theory to practice: building client personas and setting real prices for your specific service offerings. This is among the most action-oriented training in the program.
-
Month 6 · Launch
Bookkeeping, Accounting & Financial Goals
Practical financial management training — budgeting, tracking revenue and expenses, and setting financial goals — timed for when you have real numbers to work with. Personal financial planning for solo practitioners (managing irregular income, self-employment taxes, retirement accounts) is introduced here.
-
Month 7 · Build
Efficiency, Process & Time Management
Streamline your practice with process mapping and time management systems. Your 6-month check-in with LEJ staff occurs this month. Peer Roundtable #2 focuses on technology — cohort members share what’s working and what isn’t in their tech stacks.
-
Month 8 · Build
Marketing, SEO & AI-Powered Legal Practice
Website fundamentals, search engine optimization, and a dedicated new session on AI tools in solo practice — document drafting, client intake automation, legal research tools, and ethical considerations of AI use. This training positions LEJ graduates to compete in a rapidly changing market.
-
Month 9 · Build
Well-Being & Interpersonal Connections
Compassion fatigue, stress management, and building the peer relationships that sustain solo practitioners for the long haul. Peer Roundtable #3 this month focuses on well-being and business development — what practices are you protecting? What’s not working?
-
Month 10 · Grow & Sustain
Technology, Ethics & Practice Management Software
Advanced technology sessions — avoiding ethics traps in tech, maximizing your practice management software — plus a dedicated Demo Day session for cohort members to showcase their tech setups and get peer feedback.
-
Month 11 · Grow & Sustain
Business Development & Tax Preparedness
Year-end tax preparation, marketing and business planning review, and community engagement strategies to close out your year strong. Your 12-month check-in occurs this month, and Peer Roundtable #4 — a structured year-in-review session — takes place with the full cohort.
-
Month 12 · Graduation
Sustainability, Business Continuity & Graduation
Final sessions on scalability and business continuity planning ensure your practice is built to last. The month ends with your graduation — a celebration of your cohort’s accomplishments, formal transition into the LEJ alumni network, and recognition of your completed graduation pathway milestones.
Graduation Requirements
What Does It Take to Graduate?
LEJ has defined clear milestone requirements so you always know where you stand — and so graduation means something. Requirements span three areas: business formation, practice launch, and professional development.
Program Benefits
What You Receive
Every LEJ participant receives a comprehensive set of resources — not just training — to give their practice a genuine running start.
Program Cost
Investing in Your Practice
LEJ participants receive a full fee waiver during the first two months of the program while they’re getting established. Monthly payments begin in month three, keeping the program accessible while your practice is launching.
When you weigh the program fee against the expert training and benefits included, LEJ represents exceptional value for attorneys and LLPs building their practices from the ground up.
